Dementia-friendly Boulder County
Dementia-friendly Boulder County is a volunteer-led initiative that partners with communities throughout Boulder County to make them safe, welcoming and friendly for those living with dementia and their care-partners. As part of a larger Dementia-Friendly America movement, the goals and objectives of our work include:
- Increased awareness of the growing population with dementia
- Increased comfort for community members in interacting with people who have dementia
- Allowing people with dementia to contribute to the community
The Dementia-friendly initiative advances these goals and objectives by training businesses and organizations across sectors and formal and informal groups on how to be more aware, responsive to, and respectful of people living with dementia and their care-partners. Dementia is a general term for a decline in cognitive function severe enough to interfere with daily life. Memory loss is an example. Alzheimer’s is the most common type of dementia.
